  • If you are looking for further study or an apprenticeship once you leave college, this course provides UCAS points equivalent to three A Levels. You can progress to university to study Criminology, Law, Policing, Emergency Management and more, and you will have gained transferable skills like communication, discipline, problem-solving and decision-making – all useful in a variety of careers

Protective Services students get a taste of their dream careers

Protective Services students had the opportunity to experience a day in the life of the profession they hope to progress to once they leave college.

New City College students took part in some fantastic work experience sessions, taster days and industry apprenticeship placements with the Metropolitan Police, London Fire Brigade and the Army and were praised for their energy, enthusiasm and engagement.

“The sessions were interesting and provided me with a very good insight into Army life. It has changed my perspective of the Army and I now want to join up – whereas before I was set on joining the RAF!”

Top tips

Build your fitness routine

Start doing regular physical exercise like running, bodyweight workouts, or team sports. A good level of fitness is key for the course and careers ahead!

  • Absolutely – the Level 3 qualification is equivalent to 3 A Levels, which meets the entry requirements for most universities. Other students choose to go into apprenticeships or straight into work.

  • You’ll take part in a mix of classroom learning and practical activities. These might include:

    • fitness training

    • team-building exercises

    • outdoor expeditions

    • visits to public service organisations

    • role-playing real-life scenarios

    All of the above is designed to build your skills and confidence for a career in public services.
