Financial support

Need help with college costs?

If you’re 16-18 and coming to college, you might be able to get financial help through a bursary. This can help with things like travel, meals and course-related costs like equipment or trips.

Payments are personalised depending on your situation, so what you get will be based on your needs and circumstances.

What bursaries are available?

Discretionary bursary

If your household income is under £26,000 per year or you’re receiving certain benefits, you could qualify for this bursary. It can help with:

  • Travel costs – If you live far from college, you could receive financial support for travel

  • Compulsory equipment, kits, uniforms & trips – If your course requires any of these, we may reimburse you if you've already paid, or we can arrange to buy them on your behalf

  • Trips related to your course

Vulnerable bursary

This is for students in specific situations, including:

  • If you're in care or have recently left care

  •  If you're receiving Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payment with ESA or UC

Free college meals

If you're eligible for the 16-18 bursary, you’ll automatically get £3.75 loaded onto your student ID card each day. This can be used to buy a meal deal at New City Eats on campus.

Attendance matters

To keep receiving payments, you need to maintain at least 90% attendance. If you miss too many classes without a valid reason, your payments could be stopped.

When should I apply ?

Apply as soon as you start your course! Funds are limited, and late applications are assessed on a first-come, first-served basis. If you apply late, we can’t backdate payments, so you may miss out on money for the first term.

How can I apply?

Applying is easy. You’ll need to submit your application online using your college email. For more information and to submit your application click here: https://nccl.paymystudent.com/portal/
