It's important to talk.
Counselling helps you address personal or emotional problems that get in the way of realising your full academic and personal potential.
Our specialist college counsellors provide talking therapies and provide you with a confidential space to talk about your feelings.
Support outside of college time.
NCC provides out-of-hours support for students through our mental health partner Togetherall. Register using your student email address in the box that says: ‘I’m from a university or college’.
There are lots of services available and they are free of charge. See some useful links below.
Financial help
If you’re aged 16–18 and joining college, you could be eligible for a bursary to help with costs.
This support can cover things like travel, meals, and course-related expenses such as equipment or trips — making it easier for you to focus on your studies.
Careers advice
Our dedicated careers team is here to support you every step of the way — whether you’re aiming for university, an apprenticeship, or employment.
All students have access to one-to-one guidance, and you can book an appointment during college hours to get tailored advice and explore your options.
We’ll help you with everything from applying to university through UCAS to finding the right apprenticeship or training programme.
Not sure where to start? Try our career pathway tool — a great way to begin exploring your future.
Pastoral tutors
Your pastoral tutor is your go-to support throughout college.
They’re here to help with more than just your studies — whether you need support with your wellbeing, career plans, or anything else that comes up along the way, they’ll be there to guide you.
-
Sometimes life outside of college can get in the way of your studies. Whether you’re dealing with family issues, relationship problems or feeling overwhelmed, your pastoral tutor is someone you can trust to listen.
They create a safe, non-judgemental space for you to talk about what’s going on in your life and how it might be affecting your college work.
If you’re having trouble communicating with your teachers, they can act as a bridge and help you work things out.
-
One of the biggest challenges in college is staying on top of your academic responsibilities. Your pastoral tutor will help you manage your time and assignments, so you stay focused and organised.
They’ll work with you to set SMART goals—specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound—so you can keep track of what you need to do and how to achieve it.
If you're struggling with any part of your studies, they’ll help you figure out what steps to take to improve.
-
By supporting both your academic and personal growth, they’ll help you become more confident, responsible and ready for what comes next—whether that’s starting a career, applying for university, or landing an apprenticeship.
