Electrical
Why study Electrical?
-
Electrical knowledge opens doors to careers in engineering, renewable energy, robotics, electronics, and more. These fields are in high demand and offer solid salaries and job stability.
-
Studying electrical teaches real-life skills—like wiring a circuit, fixing devices, or understanding how appliances work. It’s empowering and super useful at home and in everyday life.
-
Everything from your phone to electric cars runs on electrical systems. Learning the basics helps you understand and maybe even create the technology you use every day.
-
Electrical study isn’t just wires—it’s logic, design, and troubleshooting. You learn to think methodically, which helps in any career (or life in general).
-
There are many career paths in the electrical field. You can become an electrician or technician through vocational training or apprenticeships.
With a degree, you can work as an electrical engineer in areas like robotics or power systems. If you're into sustainability, renewable energy roles focus on solar, wind, and EV tech. There’s also high demand for automation and control experts in smart industries. Whether hands-on or high-tech, the options are wide and future-proof.

Top tips
Learn the basics early.
Focus on understanding core subjects like Mathematics and Physics, as they form the foundation of key electrical concepts such as voltage, current, and resistance.
1
Be practical and hands-on.
Practice by building simple circuits, using kits, or joining school clubs. The more you experiment, the better you’ll understand how electrical systems work.
2
Stay curious and keep exploring.
Technology is always changing. Keep learning by reading, asking questions, and exploring new areas like renewable energy, electronics, or robotics.

FAQs
-
"Electrical" refers to anything that involves electricity—the energy that powers most of the devices we use every day, like phones, lights, and computers. learning how electricity works, how it flows through circuits, and how it can be controlled and used to power different things. It includes understanding key ideas like current (the flow of electric charge), voltage (the pressure that pushes the current), and resistance (what slows the current down).
Learning about electrical systems helps you understand how things like batteries, light switches, and even robots work. It's the foundation for careers in electronics, engineering, and many modern technologies.
-
The qualification will help you gain an understanding of the skills required within the electrotechnical sector. You will cover compulsory aspects such as:
working safely and effectively
design, construct, test and commission electrical systems
methods of supervision
electrical science and principles
regulations and law
diagnose and repair electrical faults.
-
Progress to university, further study or employment.
This technical qualification focuses on the development of knowledge and practical skills needed for working in the electrotechnical industry, this will prepare you to undertake an electrotechnical apprenticeship programme or NVQ.
On completion of the Apprenticeship/NVQ, you will be recognised by the industry as competent as an installation or maintenance electrician.
