Top tips
Build a multi-skilled portfolio from the start.
Creative Media covers a wide range—film, animation, audio, digital design, and more. Explore different mediums early on. Include scripts, storyboards, short films, motion graphics, podcasts, and behind-the-scenes process work. Show your versatility and how you bring ideas to life across platforms.
1
Watch, listen, and analyse media critically.
Go beyond passive viewing—study how media is made and why it works. Break down cinematography, editing techniques, sound design, and narrative structures. Keep a journal or blog of your thoughts on films, TV shows, ads, and games. Understanding what makes media engaging is key to creating your own.
2
Collaborate and communicate effectively.
Creative Media is often team-based, so get used to working with others—camera ops, sound designers, editors, writers. Practice pitching your ideas and giving/receiving constructive feedback. Build your confidence in sharing your vision, whether in meetings or presentations.
